Boko-Haram: Worshippers Divided Over Online Worship Mode

Reactions have trailed the advent of online churches with a cross section of Christians having divided opinions over the matter.
LEADERSHIP had exclusively reported yesterday that the online church, a virtual church where worshippers can log on through the internet and follow church services live, was
gaining popularity following the rising insecurity in the country in which violence appears to be targeted at Christians.
But a cross section of Christians who were spoken to have divergent opinions about the new development.
One of them, an usher at Christ Ambassador Prayer Ministry in Mushin, Lagos State, Mrs. Afolabi Adeola said that online worshipping was not a bad idea, but that it depended on the location of the church.
“For places in the northern part of the country where bombings occurs frequently, Christians can worship online in order to save innocent lives and reduce death rate. But in the South and West where we have not started witnessing bombing of churches, worshippers should go to church and worship.
“Physical worshipping is still better because, through it, Christians would be able to have better physical interactions with their ministers and other worshippers,” Afolabi said.
A pastor of the Foursquare Church in Abuja, Pastor Gbenga David Omoare who expressed shock at the development said the mere idea was outrageous, saying “It can never be possible to worship God through the internet.”
“The Lord says we should come and worship Him in his houses so for Christians to worship through the internet is blasphemy and a form of idol worshipping,” he added.
