Josephine, mother of 4, seeks N5m for kidney transplant

Josephine
Josephine Ibeh, a mother of four who resides at Agboroko area of Iyano-Iba in Lagos State, was  hale and hearty until one day when she began falling ill frequently. She attributed the weakness and feverishness to malaria but decided to seek more medical advise when her health did not improve.
Josephine, who later went for series of tests, was shocked to her marrow when it was revealed to her that her problem is kidney failure. Worse still, it was not
just one kidney, but both that had failed.

“When I was told of my predicament, it depressed me a great deal but I still have faith in God. Since  the discovery, I have been undergoing dialysis at a cost of N40,000 weekly.”
Her medical consultant had advised that a kidney transplant is the only option as both kidneys are no more functioning.
Although Josephine has been undergoing dialysis for some time now, her consultant is of the opinion that the transplant should not be allowed to drag.

“My consultant has warned that that the more I do dialysis, the more  I endanger myself, that it is better to do a kidney transplant, and because the transplant has to be done in India, a total of N5million is needed.”
Asked if she has found a donor,  Ibeh said “For now nobody has volunteered.  My consultants say  it is better if the donor comes from my family or relations, that the kidney will match easily and my body will accept it easily. Unlike non-relations, the kidney will take time to match my body system and it will make me to be on drugs.
“My husband is willing to donate one of his kidneys. However, he is still running some medical tests to know if his kidney matches my own and if it is good enough.”
Being of below average means, Josephine and her husband are unable to raise the N5 million on their own, hence they are soliciting support from well- meaning persons.
Although the Catholic Church where they worship is trying to assist, what it has come up with is like a drop in the ocean and still a far cry from what is required.
“My doctors have been encouraging me that I should hasten up for the transplant that the dialysis is not the cure but only a temporay means of removing waste products from  the body,” Josephine said.
Her  medical report from the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital reads:
“The above named 39 year-old woman presented at our hospital about four months ago with features of advanced chronic kidney disease. Since then, she has been on maintenance haemodialysis on an outpatient basis.
She is currently dialysing once weekly as against the recommended thrice weekly due to financial constraints. Her medication includes Minoxidil 2.5mg bd; Atenolol 50mg daily; Nifedipine retard 40mg bd; Lisinopril 20mg daily; SC erythropoietin 4000iv twice daily and IV iron sucrose 200mg monthly.
“She has been counseled on the need for a kidney transplant which is the definitive treatment for her kidney failure. She has requested this medical report to enable her source for funds for the surgery. Kindly offer her every necessary assistance.” The report was signed by Bello B.T, a consultant Nephrologist.

Accordingly, an appeal is going out to all kind hearted individuals or organisations who want to donate towards saving Josephine’s life.
All donations should be paid to Fidelity Bank Plc  Account No 6017795321. The account name is Mrs. Josephine Ibeh. Further details can be obtained through 08038098559.
