Policemen from Area ‘E’ Division in Festac Town, Lagos, southwest
Nigeria, have arrested two men who allegedly concealed live cartridges
in 26 cartons with 970 shirts inside a Volkswagen bus.
One of the suspects, James Korinjoh, who claimed to
be a retired Naval Officer, said he owns the items.
According to police sources, the white Volkswagen bus with Lagos
registration number XT 537 LSD coming from Seme Border enroute Balogun
Market at Trade Fair Complex was suspected to be carrying contraband and
was intercepted.
When the police searched the bus at their station,
out of the 28 cartons inside it, 26 contained live cartridges concealed
inside the ‘T’ shirts loaded in them.
Also recovered from the vehicle were a Naval officer’s uniform, identity card, beret, cap and shoes.
In the course of police investigation, Korinjoh led policemen to his
suspected accomplice, Maduabuchi Udeh who is said to be one of the
owners of the consignment.
Udeh allegedly offered the police a bribe of N61,200 to recover the consignment which the police rejected.
Udeh was arrested along with Korinjoh in Lagos.
The police have begun a manhunt for other three fleeing suspects in connection with the consignment.
