A resident of Idi-Ose Area, Ilorin,
Kwara State, Saadu Aliu, on Monday told an Ilorin Area Court that he saw
his son, Aminu, playing football after his former wife had
told him
that the boy was dead.
Aliu told the President of the court,
Mr. Yusuf Abdulkareem, that now that Aminu was still alive, the court
should prevail on his ex-wife, Afusat Ibrahim, to let him have custody
of his five-year-old son.
“Afusat told me and my relatives that
Aminu was dead, but to my surprise, I saw my child playing football with
his colleagues,” the 55-year-old man said.
Aliu, who is the plaintiff, said after
their marriage had collapsed in 2010, his ex-wife took Aminu with her
and later told him that the boy was dead.
Aliu further told the court that apart
from Aminu, their marriage produced two other children, Ibrahim (10),
and Alimatu, 7, who were under his custody.
However, his ex-wife denied telling him
that their son was dead. She alleged that the plaintiff also denied her
access to Ibrahim and Alimatu.
“I never told him his child was dead. His conscience is disturbing him and he has no fear of God in him,” she said.
Abdulkareem adjourned the case until September 17.
He ordered Aliu to produce two witnesses
at the next adjourned date, adding that his ex-wife, Afusat, should
also produce Aminu before the court at adjourned date.
