Love Scam: How one grandmother's disappearance exposed an international criminal network

Despite the umpteen warnings and thousands of tragic stories, more and more Australians are being duped by get rich quick schemes and love scams.

In February 2013, a 67 year old grandmother from Australia who traveled to South Africa to meet a Nigerian man she met online was found dead under suspicious circumstances in a Johannesburg guest house within days of meeting the man who called himself Jesse Orowo Omokoh. (Read story here)

Jesse is believed to have scammed the woman in excess of $90k. After the woman's death, Jesse, 28, disappeared. Well, after a year on the run, he has been arrested in Lagos. EFCC worked with West Australian fraud squad to find the man and all his accomplices. EFCC officials with policemen and 60minutes TV crew stormed the man's home in the outskirt of Lagos around 6am for the dramatic take down.

million dollars leaves Australia every week, never to return, as part of a scam. And that's just the money they know about.
