Religiously leaders have condemned the proliferation of strip clubs in the country, describing the trend as alien to the African culture.
Bishop Kayode Williams of the Christ Vessel of Grace described the practice as an abominable act of highest order, which must be condemned in strong terms. Williams who...
spoke in a telephone chat with Sunday Sun said the reprehensible act called for value re-orientation as, according to him, it is an indication of erosion of societal values.
“Some may erroneously claim that it is civilization. This practice is alien to our culture in the African continent because in Africa we cherish our body so much and anything that will make people to dance nude is totally strange to our culture. We should, therefore, strive to maintain our dignity as human beings by condemning this abominable practice,” he noted.
The cleric who noted that places of worship have their own share in the growing level of immorality in the society called on religious leaders to jointly rise against such abominable practices and lead by example especially with their mode of dressing.
“The mode of dressing of most church leaders encourages immorality to thrive.
lead by example in all areas. We need attitudiTherefore religious leaders must endavour to nal change that will aid the restoration of our values,” he said.
Speaking in the same vein, Pastor (Mrs.) Blessing Agboli of Victorious Army Ministry noted that the proliferation of strip clubs is an indication that more and more people are beginning to lose their value. According to her, Nigeria is gradually turning into a society where everything is done in a trade by barter basis.
“People no longer cherish those values we once held with so much respect. That is why children will come home with money and their parents won’t query them on how they come about it. Everybody wants to live big,” she said.
Agboli who noted that mothers have a vital role to play in bringing up their children with the fear of God urged women to devote more time for their children. “Everything goes down to the mother. As a mother you need to know your children very well; you need to know what they do, you need to know who they move with, you must find time for your children,” she said, adding that, “parents must strive hard to ensure that they impact positively on their children.
In another reaction, a Muslim cleric, Ustaz AbdulHameed Alli deplored the rising trend, which he attributed to collapsed moral and religious systems. He said that the quest for civilization and freedom as well as poverty was pushing the youths beyond limits.
Alli urged parents to take the education of their children, particularly the girls more seriously to curb the tendency to become wayward.
He also challenged government to reduce poverty, which forcing women to engage in indecent and perverted acts in the bid to earn a living.
