VIDEO: Okonjo-Iweala Blasts ABC News Reporter, Warns that she is “Tired” Of Talking About Missing Chibok Girls

Nigeria’s finance minister, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, slipped up Friday in a rare media gaffe, telling a reporter for American television, ABC, she was tired speaking about the abduction of more than 276 school girls in Chibok, Borno State.

  1. This is a maliciously twisted report. She did not say that. What she said is more clearly represented in the statement issued about this report earlier today:

    FEDERAL MINISTRY OF FINANCE

    News Release. May 12, 2014

ATTEMPTS TO MISREPRESENT OKONJO-IWEALA’S STANCE ON CHIBOK GIRLS UNWARRANTED

It has come to our attention that there are attempts to misrepresent the position of CME on the unfortunate abduction of the Chibok girls.

The online campaign is based on the lie that the minister is “tired” of talking about the abducted girls. This is a distortion of her comments to a reporter from ABC News of the US.

Such a distortion is contrary to numerous and consistent comments by the minister which underscore her pain and concern over the issue.

The minister had previously stated during WEF that “As a mother of four children, including a daughter, I cannot imagine the agony the parents of these children must be experiencing. We understand the anger and sadness that is shared by Nigerians at home and abroad.”

She had also tweeted: “Our commitment to #BringBackOurGirls does not end with #WEFAfrica. It'll continue. It is our task. We must do it until we bring them back!”

The minister is certainly NOT tired of an issue which has been a nightmare to families involved and all Nigerians for the past one month. She urges that we all focus on the girls themselves and how we bring them back.

Below is the link to the complete interview. Please view and judge for yourself.

    1. Dear, first of all she in the video that she is tired of speaking about the abducted school girls. NOI problems was how she acted all along the interview. BTW i thought you will show us the full interview or somewhere something different happened but again you still posted a link of the same old tired interview. However none one is misrepresenting or doubting if she is committed in the #bringbackourgirls campaign. The truth is that she simply goofed!

  2. To be honest i dont think she is the best person to ask those questions. but the issue here is that as a top minister in the govt. the way she handled the interview wasn't great. If one of her aides was the one preventing this journalist...then it would have been better. She started it poorly. This reminds me one of her appearances at the house committee she was asked a question, she changed face and told the committee members she was sick. God bless Nigeria.
