According to news making the rounds, Legendary musician Victor Essiet of the Mandators Fame has been Kidnapped in Nsit Ubiom area of Akwa Ibom state.
The incident happened at about 3am Saturday morning while Victor Essiet, while returning to Uyo from his elder brother Tony Essiet's wake keep, who died last month.
At the moment efforts have been intensified by family members who are said to have.....
contacted the police authorities to ensure the return of Victor Essiet.
It will be recalled that Essiet is one of the veteran Nigerian musicians who made reggae a popular music genre in Nigeria. Reggae, itself, has its root in Jamaican music culture from late 60s. In the 80s, it was a top choice in Nigeria and indeed different parts of the world with iconic names like Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, Jimmy Cliff, Yellowman and Culture as reference points. What seems to be characteristic of reggae is the offbeat rhythms; bass guitar, usually mid-tempo flow, sometimes with the call and response style- a technique adopted in several protest songs.
A native of Akwa-Ibom, Essiet’s career peaked in the 90s in Nigeria for numerous reasons.
