Help Save Juliana From The Jaws Of Death

Juliana on the hospital bed
WHEN in 2010, Mrs Juliana Ikechukwu took ill, she thought she would soon recover. She had malaria, her legs became swollen,  she  had abdominal pains, coughed intermittently and had chest pain but didn’t think much of it.
But alas, in November last year, it was discovered that she had
chronic kidney problem.
“I was told at Life Support Medical Centre, Lagos that the only option left for me is kidney transplant,” the mother of five recalled.
As if that was not enough, the next month, she was diagnosed with hypertension. Her distraught husband, Mr Goodluck Ikechukwu, said the illness took the family by surprise and has left them with nothing.
“Before this happened, I worked with MTN as a Senior Consultant in Port Harcourt. Then, my family was staying in Enugu. I came home one weekend and she told me about her swollen leg,” he recalled.
At first, he attributed it to stress. But some weeks later, her condition remained the same. She was rushed to Otego General Hospital, Enugu where it took about three to four months before she was diagnosed with having chronic kidney failure.
“But I was told it was nothing serious and they started treating her. Due to the urgent attention, I resigned from work. We were later referred to Life Support Medical Centre in Lagos where it was discovered to be severe kidney failure. She has undergone a series of dialysis and we were told that the only option to save her life is kidney transplant,” he lamented.
Juliana needs to undergo kidney transplant in India and it will cost N6.7million. Her husband has stopped working and she has no steady means of income.
“I don’t want my wife to die. I am seeking assistance from the government and Nigerians in general so that my wife will be healthy.”
