s.O.s: Please, Help Onyedika To Live

UDEBUANI---4-5-13
Onyedika getting dialysis

THE life of Onyedika Udebuani, 24 years, is gradually ebbing away, but he can be helped to live if help comes to him urgently.
Onyedika’s father, Mr. Ben Udebuani, lamenting the agony his ailing son is passing through, said. “He does not sleep, eat, bath like a normal human being. His body swells as the days go by. He has stopped schooling due to his health condition. He is under excruciating pains from his kidney. The pains, agonies and tears he experiences every second he takes a breath are enough to take the life of this intelligent and promising young Nigerian. When he was attending school, he was brilliant. At a point, he was attending classes twice a week but he has now stopped as a result of the sickness. But we managed until he concluded his secondary education”.
He disclosed that Onyedika was nine months old when had a terrible sickness, which necessitated their spending several weeks in the hospital where he was diagnosed as having sickle cell anaemia. Since then, they have been taking him to hospitals for medical attention.
“Last year,” he said, “one of our town’s man who had a similar problem told us that we can go to India and give him vaccine which can last for five years to cushion the effects of the condition.”
With support from family members and friends, they raised funds and took him to India for the purpose. It was in the course of undergoing the treatment in India that the doctors revealed that he was having kidney disease. They recommended that he would need to undergo kidney transplant to stay alive.
The doctors did the first session of haemodialysis for Onyedika but he could not continue because the family ran out of funds, and he had to return home.
“The hospital in India told us that before we can do anything, they (hospital in India) will have to do transplant a kidney for my son,” his father said.
With a heavy heart, he said that owing to financial constraints, Onyedika has not been having his haemodialysis session regularly, which is worsening his health status everyday.
A report by Dr. K. E. Asomugha of Dialyzers Medical Centre, Oshodi, Lagos on Onyedika’s condition states: “He is a sickle cell patient who was diagnosed of having sickle cell nephropathy in India where he had his first session of haemodialysis.”
Onyedika was further diagnosed of chronic kidney disease associated with reduction in urine output, respiratory disease, pale looking, afebrile, anicteric and bilateral pitting oedema.
It states further: “He has been counseled and he is currently making efforts to have a suitable donor for the transplant operation in India with a total cost of six million naira (the cost estimate excludes travel expenses and total accommodation).”
Pleading for help to save Onyedika, his father said: “All the money I and my wife have worked for has been pumped into his health. We have now resorted to borrowing in order to keep my son alive. Look at these dialysis receipts. For the month of March (2013) alone, I have spent a total of N208, 000.  This is what I have been doing. How long will this last? My work stopped in the course of caring for him, and my wife who is a teacher cannot do much as she earns little.
“Help me, help me! I need help. Nigerians, please help me, he is my first son. I plead with Nigerians, Governor Peter Obi, Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola and other people to come to my help.”
Onyedika who hails from Nnewi in Anambra State needs your help to live and be happy again.

Olanrewaju Olawole on sick Bed
FOR 37-year-old Olanrewaju Olawole, life is getting unbearable every passing day and the burden of footing the bill to undergo a chronic kidney surgery is beyond him. That is why he is appealing to Nigerians come to his aid.
Olawole, a video-editing specialist, said he thought he was having a fever until January this year when he was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease at the Federal Medical Centre, Owo, Ondo State. So far, he has spent over N2.2 million on dialysis and N7 million is needed for the kidney transplant to be carried out by a Lagos-based hospital.
“I don’t want to die now but it is painful that I may die any moment if nobody comes to my rescue. The pain is getting too much,” he said with tears rolling down his cheeks.
A father of three and a native of Ikole Ekiti, Olawole  said that based on the diagnosis carried out on him, experts discovered that his two kidneys have ruptured and he needs prompt kidney transplant to live.
Also speaking to newsmen in Ado Ekiti yesterday, his wife, Funmi  said her husband has been bedridden since January this year when he was discovered to be suffering from chronic Kidney disease at the State Specialist’s Hospital before he was referred to Federal Medical Centre, Owo, Ondo State, where he has been admitted since.
Mrs Olawole, a school teacher, said N2.2 million has been expended for dialysis treatment at FMC since her husband was diagnosed with the life-threatening disease.
She said the money was realized through the sales of their personal effects, including parcels of land and other belongings.
She said her husband is now on life support at the FMC Owo, having fainted thrice last  Monday, when his case had degenerated. She said he has been undergoing dialysis treatment twice in a week at the FMC to keep him alive, which she said cost him a sum of N150,000 weekly.
She said he was first treated for malaria at a private hospital  in Akure, the Ondo State capital in Januar. When the fever failed to subside, she said he noticed that his right foot was  swelling, saying this actually forced him to seek  further medical examination at the State Specialist’s Hospital where  the disease was discovered.
“When it started in January, my husband was feeling feverish and we advised him to go for treatment which he did. But later, we noticed that his right foot was swelling and we were forced to go to the State Specialist’s  Hospital in Akure, where we got to know that he had chronic kidney disease.
“We have sold our valuables including parcels of land to take care of the disease. We have borrowed money to take care of him and now that we have no money to foot the bill, we are appealing to Nigerians to help us. I am a young lady and this is not the right time for me to become a widow because it will be difficult for me to take care of three children with my meagre salary,” she bemoaned.

The Lekki-Ikoyi suspension ridge: Assembly stalls toll collection

Lawmakers of the Lagos House of Assembly have deferred a decision on the tolling of the new Lekki-Ikoyi bridge opened by the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, amidst fanfare today.

[Must Read]....If your partner snores, don’t get mad, get help

Have you ever shared the same room with someone who snores? Those who have will readily confess that it’s an unpleasant experience. Snoring can be a bore to the person sharing the bed or room with the snorer because while the latter seems to sleep soundly, the ‘room mate’ likely tosses about, waiting for the first light of dawn.
Men snore more than men, researchers say. And it could be a distraught experience for a woman, especially after a bout of … ahem, when the man drifts into a sound sleep, while the woman remains awake with his limp arm still wrapped around her in an unconscious state of being!
However, researchers counsel that if your partner snores, instead of getting mad at the irritating condition, get help very quickly, because snoring is a risky medical condition that happens when air flows past relaxed tissues in your throat, causing the tissues to vibrate as you breathe, creating the irritating sounds.

About 13 years ago, Samuel Tanimola ran away from home in Ifo, Ogun State, at the age of 10 years. He came to Lagos and settled down in Dopemu area of the state.

However, things were not as easy as he had hoped. He had no friend and knew nobody in the new place he found himself, yet he had to feed.
Tanimola joined hordes of street children roaming the streets and feeding through the use of their wits until he was eventually arrested by the Environmental Task force on Special Offences in 2004.
He said, “I ran away because I was not happy at home; it was a polygamous setting and my mum was not living with us.

There are more than enough evidence to believe that the Goodluck Ebele Jonathan-led administration is nothing but a clueless formation of fraudulent political jobbers who have no plans for the sovereign nation called Nigeria, and this can be attested to by some of these recent incidents.

For instance, the shocking expose of the secret ballot which we gathered had been pre-arranged a month earlier to the governors` forum`s election is one of the appalling instances.
