P-l-e-a-s-e R-e-a-d: Fashola’s policy on okada: A signal metaphor

Fash - o - Law!

Given his presence in the media, Governor Babatunde Fashola appears to be doing well in his sought task of governing Lagos State. In normal climes, such press certification puts the subject in good potential stead of advancing the political leadership ladder up to the pinnacle of the presidency of the nation. This is the reason why the mindset, policies and performance of such individuals (and implicatively their political platform) should be a subject of critical analysis. Such analysis could serve two of many purposes. One, the public may be assisted in discerning the reality of the individual beyond propaganda such that they are not sold a pig in a poke. The other is to assist the individual to make adjustments or confirm persuasion of his chosen track.
That being the case, there are signal activities of Fashola since he became Governor which are disturbing about his evaluation and treatment of the citizens he governs; and about the relationship of his state to the federation.

R-A-C-I-S-M: How citizen Aigbedion was mobbed, ‘murdered’ in Turkey

PERHAPS, if Mr. Courage Aigbedion, was told when he was leaving Nigeria for Turkey in 2011, that he was embarking on a suicide flight, he would have dismissed it with a wave of hand.
For someone, who lived in a country where relocating to Europe, seems to be the surest exit from harsh economic conditions, there would not have been anything anyone could have done to dissuade Courage from searching for greener pastures abroad. Hence, all that mattered to him while leaving Nigeria, were the prospects of landing a good job in Turkey and coming back to the country an economically satisfied person.
But all the dreams that accompanied the former staff of the Central Bank of Nigeria,CBN,  were

Judgement Day Terrorism: MEND Vs BOKO HARAM

Edmund Ebiware    (Life)                           Sanda Umar Konduga (a.ka Al-Zawahiri) (3years)

Something must be wrong somewhere....Spot the difference.

An Abuja Chief Magistrate Court, on Dec 6th, 2011, sentenced the self confessed spokesman of the Boko Haram Islamic sect, Ali Sanda Umar Konduga (a.ka Al-Zawahiri) to three years imprisonment without option of fine. Konduga was convicted by the trial court on a two-count criminal charge bothering on criminal breach of public trust and intimidation through anonymous communication, after he had pleaded guilty to all the allegations levelled at him by the State Security Service, SSS.

One of the alleged masterminds of the October 1, 2010, Independence Day bomb blasts that killed 12 persons, Mr Edmund Ebiware, was on Jan 25th, 2013 convicted and sentenced to a life imprisonment by a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, with effect from October 3, 2010.
The trial judge, Justice Gabriel Kolawole sentenced Ebiware after he was found guilty on the entire three-count charge preferred against him by the Federal Government.
The court, in its judgment that lasted five hours, said that it was satisfied that Ebiware, had prior knowledge that the convicted erstwhile leader of the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta, MEND, Mr. Henry Okah, planned to detonate bombs in Abuja but made no effort to report the plans to appropriate authorities.

P-l-e-as-e-R-e-a-d: Love letters - Going, going, gone

A typical love letter.
A typical love letter.
Like a fairy tale, there was a time when letter writing reigned supreme as an effective communication mode.
Among lovebirds, the exchange of love letters was a constant pastime.
These letters, emotionally-crafted, were often a treasure to the receiver.
Common phrases like-You are the only sugar in my tea; you are the only cockroach in my cupboard; you are the only flower in my garden; I drop my pen in the basket of love, among others, were often used to the delight of the recipients of the letters.
Many people still keep the love letters they received so many years ago even though they may not be married to the writer. Such was the power of love letters.

Horror in China

Their original anger, frustration and bitterness have crystallised into melancholy. Apparently helpless, dejected and depressed, they are crying for justice. They are friends and relatives of Nigerians who are languishing in various prisons in far-away China, for offences ranging from illegal entry and expired travel documents to drug trafficking. There are also, cases of Nigerian inmates who did not know why they were arrested.
They just found themselves in the prisons. Ever since Sunday Sun in its issue of December 25, 2011, reported that over 1000 Nigerians were languishing in China prisons, the families of the inmates have been making frantic efforts through several civil and government agencies to secure the freedom of their loved ones, many of whom are allegedly there on trumped up charges. However, the matter took a new turn on January 1, 2013, when at about 1am, a Nigerian prisoner who
