.....Augustina on hospital bed |
For the forty-three-year old Augustina Ekemma Orji, life is pain and excruciatingly so. As you read this, she is
lying critically ill at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH). She is afflicted by kidney disease. And since the affliction knocked her down, she has been undergoing treatment at the teaching hospital.
A fashion designer who hails from Uturu in Abia State and residing in Festac Extension, Mile 2, Lagos, Tina was first diagnosed of kidney infection at the Navy Hospital, Ojo, Lagos. She was later referred to LUTH. Recently, the sickness became worse. Today she is on dialysis. The twice-a-week exercise costs her between N48,000 and N52,000.
One of her relatives explained that the ailment started as hypertension and it was diagnosed as such in 1997. Twelve years later, however, it was discovered at LUTH that she was suffering from Chronic Renal (Kidney) Failure. “Ever since then, we have spent everything we have to save her life,” said the relative. Recently, relief came the way of the family when it was told them that Augustina’s ailment can be treated in India, this time through kidney transplant. However, while this is surely a basis to have hope, the caveat is the financial means. The family says it cannot afford the cost of the treatment.
The truth is, according to the relative, “we cannot afford the huge amount required for the kidney transplant. In fact Augustina must not be allowed to die, we need support to save her life and that is why we are calling on the government, kind-hearted Nigerians and corporate bodies to help save her life.”
The authorities of the teaching hospital have recommended her for surgery in India, which is estimated at N7 million. If this is done, she is expected to live a normal life again.
In this wise, the family has been appealing for support. They are looking up any and every angle where such support could come. According to the family, they are appealing to governments, local, state and federal governments. They are also expecting that individuals and organizations will come to her rescue. “Please I am calling on the government, corporate bodies, churches and fellow Nigerians to contribute to save my life because I do not want to die now,” cried the agonizing Augustina, from her hospital bed.
Please Without your help, Augustina‘ll die. UsaveOne plead with all kind hearted Nigerians, Corporated bodies/NGOs and Government people to please intervene and save the life of our dear Augustina. She needs our help, it could be anyone of us or love ones! Any thing you could donate will be highly appreciated...thanks a million times as you help save Augustina.
