The management of Air France KLM is to stop flight operations to the Aminu Kano International Airport.
Adducing reasons for the flight discontinuation,
Mrs. Fumni Ojesina,
in charge of Air France KLM media in Nigeria, said that KLM will stop
flying to Kano at the end of this month - June 1 precisely.
She however said that the discontinuation of flights to Kano was due
to dearth of aircraft by KLM which flies the combined Kano-Abuja to
Paris route for the airline group – Air France KLM - three times a week.
She however said Air France will now take-over from KLM but will be
flying seven times a week from Abuja to Paris which will be combined
with its service to Port Harcourt.
On whether the discontinuation of service to Kano was due to security
situation in the ancient city, Ojesina said it was simply due to lack
of aircraft to continue with the service, stressing that KLM actually
started its operation to Nigeria from Kano. “This will be the 65th year
since KLM started operating flights to Nigeria and we started from Kano.
We are sentimental about that city and we have not had any problems
since we started operating into Kano. With the current state of KLM
fleet we will not be able to fly to Kano. We are only stopping the
service temporarily until KLM is able to sort out its fleet situation”.
