Akolade & Late Wife Titilayo |
The trial of alleged wife-killer, Akolade Arowolo, was again stalled on Thursday, due to his sickness.
The trial of Akolade, who is accused of
killing his banker-wife, Titilayo Arowolo, on June 24, 2011, was stopped
mid-way on Tuesday when the defendant fell
sick in court.
When the matter came up on Thursday at
an Ikeja High Court, Akolade, who supported himself with a walking
stick, was still clutching his stomach when he appeared in court.
His lawyer, Mr. Olanrewaju Ajanaku,
prayed the court to adjourn the case due to his illness, adding that a
doctor was already attending to Akolade.
“I request that the matter be adjourned
due to the condition of his (Akolade’s) health. He is very ill and
cannot withstand the rigours of the trial at this time,” he said.
The Director of Public Prosecutions, Mrs. Olabisi Ogungbesan, told the court that Ajanaku had told her about Akolade’s sickness.
Ogungbesan told the court that she still
had three more witnesses, including Baye Cletus, a policeman attached
to the Aswani Police Division, whose evidence in chief had not been
completed before Akolade fell sick on Tuesday.
“My lord, I have three witnesses, including Cletus as well as the pathologist,” she said.
Justice Lateefa Okunnu adjourned the matter till September 14, 2012 for further hearing.
