MATRICULATION day was such a joyful climax to her efforts.
Brilliant, beautiful; Hadiat radiated the joy that was her due. She
walked on cloud nine…
Who could have known that Hadiat’s joy on matriculation day would be cut short by Nigerian roads?
On October 2009 Hadiat Oyesiji was involved in a road auto accident. A life was lost, while others suffered various injuries. Hadiat suffered a spinal cord damage—- among others. She has since been confined to a wheel chair.
Hadiat was then in her first
year in the Department of Science Laboratory Technology in Lakode Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) Ogbomoso.
She has been to various hospitals for treatment through the help of Save A Soul Foundation (SASF). She was referred to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) Lagos on October 22, 2009 from Muslim Hospital Saki (MHS). She was evaluated and subsequently had an MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) of the spine and other tests.
It was discovered that the only way to restore her was through surgery. The bill was a total sum of N1million.
After some treatments in LUTH without much improvement, she was discharged in July 2010 after nine months in hospital.
So far, over N1million has been spent, yet Hadiat is still unable to sit or stand on her own.
On December 23, 2011, with the assistance of SASF, a MRI Scan of cervical spine was conducted on Hadiat to determine her current medical status. The scan, which was conducted at Union Diagnostic & Clinical Services Plc. Lagos, revealed that she had a spinal cord contusion and compression that would require a spinal fixation surgery in India.
However concerted efforts of many Muslims through Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria (MSSN) LAUTECH Branch and SASF has secured her a place in Global Hospital/ Health City, Chennai India and she has been placed under evaluation since June 18, 2012.
Hadiat needs an additional N2million for extension of treatment and additional treatment surgery, with a condition of treatment withdrawal from Global Hospital if the money is not promptly paid.
According to the doctors, Hadiat has a high chance of walking after the surgery. She is presently in her hometown in Saki, Oyo State.
