The Executive Secretary, FCT Primary Health Care Development Board,
Dr. Rilwan Mohammed
has decried the low rate of breastfeeding among
mothers in the FCT, which he noted was
only
8 per cent.
Mohammed, who stated this while monitoring progress of the Maternal,
Newborn and Child Health Week in the FCT, noted that because of elitist
behaviour, many mothers often stay away from breastfeeding their babies,
opting for other foods without paying attention to hygiene.
Stressing the benefits of breast milk, he said “it gives immunity to
children, gives satisfaction to the mother and has anti-infective
properties to prevent the child from getting infections.”
“But because we don’t breast feed our babies and give them all sorts
of food, without taking cognisance of hygiene, we are having a lot of
malnutrition in the FCT and that is why we are deworming the children.”
.....Abeg Abuja babes try breast feed una babies. Breast feeding doesn't make una breast drop down.
Omo c babi dey enjoi.
