Police detectives in Asaba, Delta State, are currently hunting for a
middle aged woman and her friend in, Umaiji Quarters, Asaba, who,
reportedly
loaned her eight month-old baby girl to another woman for her
to claim maintenance allowance from her boyfriend who is a trailer
driver.
Police authorities said the woman, mother of four, identified as
Maureen (surname withheld), had been involved in commercial sex business
at the popular Umenede base after she had the baby girl in
“controversial circumstances.”
Reports said Maureen and her friend, a native of Asaba, are being
hunted for fraud as well as contravening sections of the child
protection and adoption act.
Mr. Charles Muka, Police spokesman in the state, confirmed on
telephone that police detectives acted on a tip-off from neighbours who
had monitored their activity after both women sealed the deal, adding
that the culprits fled the quarters before the detectives’ arrival to
the area.
LEADERSHIP reliably gathered that the woman (accomplice), who is
said to have series of men clients, had allegedly lied to her boyfriend
that she had given birth for him, and hatched a plan to use her friend’s
child to claim financial support.
But this was not to be as the boyfriend, our informed source said, who was suspicious, would not buy the story.
Muka said; “the child was supposed to be returned after two days, but
as the police tried to swoop on the women after they conspired to trick
the man that she had given birth, they escaped.”
