B-I-Z-Z-A-R-E: Couple sold 7-day-old baby to fund the treatment of a sick older son.



A couple in Umunede Ika South Local Government Area of the state has been arrested by the delta state police for allegedly selling their 7-day-old baby to fund the treatment of their sick older son.
According to the Police authorities in the area, the parents of the baby, Mabel and her husband (surname withheld) including
three others has been arrested on a tip-off.
The police authority further explained that, the couple upon interrogation, said it was poverty forced them to give up their new born baby to pay for the treatment of their two-year-old son.
Although the police confirmed that they were subsequently released, it was disclosed that some neighbours who had been married for years without a child, offered the couple N200, 000.

  2. I think we should be careful here. If the couple receiving the child are not foreigners to the town or village but are neighbours, then this transaction is not in a selling process but known as adoption. This practice is done everywhere in the world. The lazy government should be enacting laws that helps barren couples so that they too have children.
