A man and two women accused of
intending to commit adultery have reportedly been frogmarched naked by
officers to the police station.
The bizarre incident apparently took place in the
interior Sindh town of Gambat in the southeast of the country.
According
to witnesses, police forced the naked man and a woman on to the streets
before marching them at least half a kilometre away. When passers-by voiced their concern about what was happening to officers, the still-naked woman was put into a police vehicle. However, the man, who has been named as a
local trader by the name of Mumtaz, was apparently still forced to walk
in front of the vehicle all the way to the police station.
Eyewitnesses said that the other women, who was also arrested and charged with 'intentions of adultery', was fully-clothed.
The
unusual scenes unfolded after officials were apparently informed by a
'local spy' that a man had invited two women around for sexual favours.
And when officers arrived to find a man with his arms around two women, they arrested all three.
The
man alleged to have been involved in the incident has claimed his
innocence to BBC Urdu and has claimed he is being victimized by the
police.
He has subsequently filed a petition, which is due to be heard this week in Sindh High Court.
Local police have declined to comment on the incident.
