Must Read: Another Banker arrested in Aba over wife’s murder
A staffer of the Eziukwu Road branch of a new generation bank in Aba, the commercial hub of Abia State has been arrested by the police over the murder of his wife. Daily Sun gathered that the banker, whose name was given as Iweka (other names withheld) and who resides at the Umuchichi area of Ogbor Hill with the wife and their four-year-old daughter, had sometime last week after close of work went home.
It was gathered that he could not gain entrance to his house as the wife who he left at home in the morning could not come out to open the gate for him by about 9.30 p.m. he was said to have returned.
Iweka, after several attempts to have access to his house failed, was said to have, out of the feelings that perhaps the wife felt he returned home late and refused to open the gate, opted to pass the night inside his car in front of the building.
The Daily Sun source said the banker slept in his car till about 3.00 a.m. when he decided to take the bull by the horns. He was said to have scaled the fence of the building and on getting in, met the unexpected.
Iweka, from Mbano in Imo State was reported to have met his wife of over five years who
hailed from Mbaise also in Imo State and said to be a banker who was recently laid off by former Bank PHB, dead inside their sitting room. The banker raised the alarm and neighbours gathered. Eventually, the police were invited.
With the arrival of the police, however, things turned for the worst for the banker. According to the source, immediately the police arrived and were making inquiry into the death of the woman, the couple’s four-year-old daughter informed the cops that his father knew her mother’s killers.
The little girl was said to have told the police that when her mother’s assailants, who she claimed used wrapper to strangulate her came in, her father (the banker) took her to a different room in the house. Based on the information, the banker was arrested and first taken to a police station in the city before he was last weekend transferred to the State Criminal and Investigation Department SCID, Umuahia for further interrogation.
When Daily Sun visited the Abayi Police Station, where the banker was first taken to, although the DPO was not around, a police officer who pleaded anonymity confirmed the report and said the matter had been transferred to SCID, Umuahia for further investigation. When contacted, the Abia PPRO, Ezekiel Onyeike promised to get back to us which he could not as at the time of filing the report.
When Daily Sun correspondent visited the scene of the incident, residents expressed shock at the murder. They said it was only a thorough investigation by the police that would unravel the truth and the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death.
