OLAIDE Adeola was born a normal baby. However, about seven
months later, something black appeared on her right eye which the
doctor described as retina glaucoma. “They said that they would remove
the eye, but we did not support it. It was three months ago that this
tumour started shooting out,” her mother, Mrs. Toyin Bolude,
lamented.
Olaide, who will be three in November now lives in a constant pain which she ‘s too small to understand.
In fact, time is running out for Olaide. The tumour, which oozes blood, has taken over her right eye and is growing bigger.
According to Dr. Elebute of BT Health and Diagnostics Centre, Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Ikeja
“Both eyes were thoroughly
scanned using a 10mhz probe in both longitudinal and transverse planes. There is an irregular mass with multiple calcific denalties within the right vitreous chamber. The right lens is intact with evidence of ipsilateral retinal detachment. Features are consistent with retrobiastoma. MRI is suggested for further evaluation.”
She needs N2.5 million urgently for a surgical operation at Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH).
Her mother, Abibat, 37, a caterer, is appealing to Nigerians to assist in raising the money for the surgery. “I am already trying to raise the N65,000 for the MRI. I was at LUTH on August 2. I promised to bring her back the following day, but I have not been able to raise up to that. My husband, Mr. Ibrahim Bolude, an electrician from Kwara State is not around…” she said.
According to her, with the N2.5 million, the surgery can be done in LUTH, but if she can get a sponsor to do the surgery in India, it might be a cleaner operation.
“They say we are going to be in the hospital for over three months. My daughter cannot sleep at night. I even said that I would go with her to the Governor of Lagos State, Raji Fashola’s office to seek help. I went to the office of the Representative for Alimosho Constituency at the House of Representative, Mr. Adeola Olamilekan’s office, but I was told that he was not around. I dropped the letter and I am yet to hear from him. There is no help from anywhere yet,” she said.
