Obi shuts hotel for harbouring criminals Four suspected kidnappers were arrested in the Onitsha hotel
Following the arrest of four suspected kidnappers at a hotel in Nkpor, near Onitsha, the establishment has been shut by the Anambra State governor, Dr. Peter Obi.
The governor, who personally
supervised the closure of the hotel on Sunday at about 4p.m., restated his government's zero tolerance stance regarding violent crimes in the state.
Obi, who led a team of government officials to the scene, said "the boost in industrialisation of the state is the result of its peace and security."
He said the hotel will remain locked until investigations are completed.
"This hotel will remain closed until investigation is concluded. If it is established that it housed the kidnappers, the state government will not only demolish it, it will also confiscate the land," he said.
Obi said that his supervision of the hotel’s closure was "another clear message to persons who engage in kidnapping, as well as those aiding and abetting them, that Anambra is not a place for them."
The police arrested four suspected kidnappers in the hotel, after tracking them for some weeks.
A senior police officer, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said that policemen from the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) arrested the suspects after a tip-off.
"The police, at about 3 a.m. on Sunday, rounded them up and rescued two prominent men they had kidnapped in the area," the officer said.
