Omega made this known in
a lecture organised by Women in Technical Education and Development in Bauchi on Thursday.
He said that studies revealed that in every 14 black women, only one woman had the disease, while in every nine European women, one had the disease.
He said that breastfeeding the baby for a long period of time was beneficial to the woman.
``The ideal breast feeding period is one year and six months but due to the fact that some women cannot do that because of the nature of their jobs, they introduce complementary feeding after six months.
``Earlier studies show that females from the age of 20 were affected with breast cancer but recently girls of 18 years are diagnosed with cancer of the breast.
``The issue of age does not apply, if a woman feels any abnormalities in the breast, she should go to the nearest health facility,’’ he said.
Omega advised nursing mothers to extract their breast milk and preserve it in warm and clean containers, for their babies to be fed with in their absence.
Also speaking, the Coordinator, Women in Technical Education and Development, Mrs Ruth Mamman, said that the selection of Federal Polytechnic as the venue of the lecture was to create awareness in the students.
