Armed robbers yesterday in Lagos shot dead two policemen at the Oko-Oba Agege area of the metropolis. The two policemen, an assistant superintendent of police (ASP) and an inspector were attached to the Oko-Oba Police Station. The ASP, simply identified as Niyi and his team were said to have responded to a distress call when they
met their untimely death.
According to source, the ASP’s team mistook the robbers’ vehicle for that of the Area ‘G’ area commander who was also responding to the distress call. It was gathered that the police team was taken by surprise by the robbers who opened fire on them. When the smoke settled, the ASP and inspector lay dead, while a sergeant and a corporal escaped.
The sergeant and the corporal were said to have sought assistance but before they could come back for reinforcement, the robbers had escaped.
When contacted, the state police spokeswoman, Ngozi Braide, who confirmed the story said “yes it is true that we lost two of our men who were responding to distress call but we also killed two of the robbers and recovered two locally made pistols.” Braide called on medical doctors and traditional bonesetters to report anyone who visits them for the treatment of bullet wounds to the nearest police station. “I am not saying that doctors should not treat patients with bullet wounds but while treating them someone should report to the nearest police station”, she said.

Sad...The police men died gallantly and we pray that they rest in perfect peace.
May God comfort the families they left behind.
