W-a-o-o-h! Court jails prostitute for theft

A  Ashewo commercial sex worker a.k.a Rita Joseph, an 18-year-old runs girl, was on Monday sentenced to two months’ imprisonment by  an Upper Area Court in Jos for stealing two
mobile phones valued at N16,500. The court, however, gave the convict an option of N1,000 fine.  
The trial Judge, Mustapha Hassan, said that the prosecution had convinced the court beyond reasonable doubt that the convict committed the offence.  
He said that the confessional statement made by the convict assisted the court to arrive at its decision.
"The court has relied heavily on Section 157 of the Criminal Procedure Code that stipulate quick judgement to any suspect that pleads guilty to his or her offence," Justice Hassan said.
He warned her to be of good character after her jail term and advised her to shun prostitution and stealing.
The prosecutor, Ado Abbare, told the court that the convict committed the offence on October 2, at about 5.30 am.
