| Late Olaitan Oyerinde |
prevented a possible fisticuffs between the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), Mohammed Adoke (SAN) and Edo State Governor Adams Oshiomhole at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The bone of contention is the murder of Oshiomhole’s Private Secretary, Olaitan Oyerinde. He was assassinated in his Benin GRA residence last year. Both Adoke and Oshiomhole engaged in the public altercation inside the Council Chamber shortly before the commencement of the National Council of State meeting.
Trouble started when Adoke approached Oshiomhole in what some of those within ear-shot said was a joke and wondered why the governor’s Attorney-General misled him when he knew that Oyerinde’s case was a state matter.
Angered by Adoke’s submission, the Comrade Governor asked: “Since when did states own the Nigeria Police?” The atmosphere was tense when Oshiomhole accused Adoke of not respecting his office neither does he knows his onions as an AGF, both men vowed that they could not be intimidated, neither will they be afraid of each other. Sensing that the altercation might further degenerate, a protocol officer quickly alerted Oghiadomhe who alongside Uduaghan and another aide of the President succeeded in calming down the feuding parties.
