s.O.s: Eke Ernest - Just A Little Kindness Can Help Save His Life

18yrs Old Ernest Eke Needs A Kidney transplant

EKE ERNEST - MY STORY
The balance of fairness, till today, still tilts towards those who live healthily with occasional headaches and tiredness from heavy works. Any human suffering from a terminal ailment would do anything to attain healthy living. I cannot cross my fingers and allow this deadly disease take me away at this tender age from this beautiful world.

I would forever remain grateful to my parents for their ceaseless love despite the heavy burden I constitute in their lives. Never in my entire 18 years on earth have I had any reason to doubt the immeasurable love they have for me. Many would have given up by now; they are steadfast in caring for me.

November 2008 was when it all began, I suffered from cerebrovascular accident (CVA). I was only 13 years of age. I was in a coma for 3 days and woke up with amnesia and a reduced strength of my vision. It wasn’t easy learning everything from the scratch again, but God saw me through. After this incident, I was diagnosed with sickle cell nephropathy. All this while, I have been a known patient of the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH).

On the 7th of November 2012, my mother noticed that I was unusually pale and took me to see my doctors. After careful examinations and medical investigations, I was diagnosed with stage 3 chronic kidney disease and ever since, the story of my life has changed. I frequent the hospital now more than anyone could imagine. I have been managed well at LUTH but right now this illness has advanced and I have reached a stage where kidney transplant is inevitable.

Managing my renal problems, coupled with taking care of two other sickle cell carriers has had serious financial tolls on my parents. The estimated cost of this surgery is seven million Naira. I have looked up and the words of the Psalmist in Psalm 121 keeps coming to my head, my help comes from the Lord who made heaven and earth.

On behalf of my family, I beseech you, the well-meaning humans, I carry a soul that is probably identical to yours in all functions except that my body is a bit sick to carry the soul effectively for me to be able to run around and attend school like many 18 year old humans out there. I don’t want to die unfulfilled. Don’t allow this sickness that has stolen my kidneys jack away my precious heart before my parents’ eyes. Your spiritual, financial and emotional help could save my life.

Please help me get well so that I can fulfil God’s promises in my life and leave a footprint as a blessing to my generation.
