At the moment he is engaged in a do-or-die battle to save his life from the clutches of the potentially fatal renal failure.
In a narration to Good Health Weekly, Felix stated: “I started feeling pains in my body early in February this year. I thought it was normal pain associated with hard work, little did I know it was an ominous sign.
“I went for tests and bought malaria drugs but noticed each time I took the drugs, I felt pains in my stomach. It was severe pain as if a snake was moving around in there biting me hard. I did another test, this time I said to myself it must be typhoid and malaria I was wrong. The pains were becoming unbearable and I began attributing it to spiritual manipulation, but continued the tests to decipher what the problem was.”
After much testing, it was discovered Felix had kidney problems and was referred to Lagos State University Teaching Hospital Ikeja LASUTH and later to Gbagada General Hospital where he was placed on dialysis, three times a week.
“Each session of dialysis costs N30,000, and lasts approximately 20 hours before I have to do another round. I have spent all my life earning but because of this sickness, now I am left with nothing and to even cater for my wife is a big challenge. Doctors say I need a kidney transplant because the functional kidney is also weak. Now I need a total of N5 million for the kidney transplant. Please help me. I am pleading to well meaning Nigerians to come to my aid so I can live a normal life again.” he lamented.
A medical report signed by Dr. O.J. Babafemi, a consultant nephrologist and Head of Medicine at Gbagada General Hospital, Lagos, Felix was referred with a history of hypertension from LASUTH on November 3, 2012, on account of persistent vomiting and two months frequent urination and hiccups. On completion of a salvage dialysis and creatinie clearance, a diagnosis of end stage kidney disease was made.
“He will require kidney transplant and continue maintenance dialysis three times a week pending the transplant,” Babafemi advised.
