
One of Nigeria’s most prominent traditional rulers, Ado Abdullahi Bayero, the Emir of Kano has died. The Emir died early today in Kano according to family sources.

long illness.The 84-year-old was the longest-serving emir in the history of emirate of Kano and was considered Nigeria's second most important Muslim leader.
Last year, he survived an attack on his convoy by suspected Islamist militants of the Boko Haram group. It will be recalled that the emir had recently returned home from London where he had been receiving treatment.
In a long career, he was also a banker, police officer, parliamentarian, diplomat and a successful businessman.
