[MUST READ] Nollywood & Sex: Actor/Comedian Okey Bakassi denies sleeping with actresses for parts

Over the weekend, viral reports claimed that Actor Emeka Ike had listed the names of the Nollywood producers that sleep with actresses in exchange for roles.
He allegedly listed ‘Emma Ogugua, Murphy Stephen, Sunny McDon, Okey Bakassi and Ifeanyi Dikeh’ as the movie producers that carry out such acts, while addressing journalists at the 2nd edition of the City People’s Political Award which held recently in Lagos.

He said “These five people have taken the laws of Nigerian movie industry into their hands and  registered Actors Guild of Nigeria as their personal business. No other individual can come in.
“My first concern is to clean up Nollywood, clean up AGN. Every Nigerian youth want to act movies now, what future are we leaving for them? Where are they going to write their names?”
“The two bedroom in Surulere where they would ask you to come and grace their beds before they give you roles? Where they would make you join a gay group or lesbian group before they talk to you? Nollywood has gotten so bad that you must either strip and grace their beds or join the gay or lesbian group to belong.”
“The people at the helm of affairs are the ones killing Nollywood. Some of us the well-known actors don’t even know their rights. I dare say it again, they don’t. Nobody can come out to challenge me.”
“We built this industry with pain. Those who are at the helm of affairs now, people don’t even know them in the movies. They just came in and messed everything up.”
“That wasn’t the industry I founded. My daughter will not to go into that industry tomorrow and they would say she must sleep with one of them to get a role. Neither would my son be a part of Nollywood that is full of immoralities.”
Reacting to the report however, Okey Bakassi in a telephone chat with YNaija claimed Emeka Ike was quoted out context.
“It is not true. Immediately I saw the story, my first reaction was to call Emeka Ike and he said he didn’t grant such interview. I sent him a link to the story and behold we found that he was quoted out of context.
No one is disputing the fact that Emeka Ike has issues with the members of the board of trustees of the Actors’ Guild and that is why he vented his anger by mentioning five of the members of the board. He is pointing accusatory fingers at us (members of the board) for not ‘cleaning up Nollywood’ NOT for sex.
“If you notice, those listed are not even movie directors, the last time I produced a movie was in 1998 or there about so how would I commit such acts. I am at that stage of my career where I only select movies to feature in; I featured in about two last year.
“If you read his statement well; he only called out this people for carrying out mischief in  the industry, the caption on the Nigerian blogs on that story is just so wrong.”
Bakassi however agreed that there are indeed movie producers that sleep with actresses before giving them roles. “Yes I agree, it is possible, it happens!!! It happens in all industries whether telecommunication, banking etc, it is a normal routine.
“In Nollywood today, it has become a trend for producers to sleep with actresses to give them role while they practice homosexuality with the males.”
Recall that Movie producer, Blessing Egbe spoke on the issue on twitter a few weeks ago saying, “Single and married women sleeping with countless men to climb to the top! Please when you get there, what next please? Vanity, vanity, vanity Some say the competition is too stiff and must do the uncanny to stay abreast.
“Please if you don’t have anything to offer, go and sell recharged cards. People now put all artistes under same umbrella. We are not respected because of some greedy, talent-less lot who flood the industry. Husbands skip a heartbeat whenever their wives are on location because of the dirt that goes on. Orgies in hotel rooms involving married couple. Acting is now the gateway to prostitution. People will do anything to have their faces on the screen because ‘market go come and true true market plenty.”
Also speaking on the issue, actor Solomon Akiyesi in a chat with YNaija disclosed that ladies are the ones that actually seduce the directors and not the other way round.
“They pay the directors to feature in the movies, so as to get noticed by rich Senators and Alhajis,” Akiyesi claimed, “It is rampant and won’t stop any time soon as long as you still have desperate wannabes who would do anything to appear on TV not because they have this talent but because they want to show their cleavages and other essentials to attract willing Alhajis and horny ass senators. I’m sure you also know about cash-for -roles going on in Nollywood. Girls now pay to get roles.”
YNaija tried to get Emeka Ike to clarify his claims but he did not take our calls or reply our text messages.
