President Mohammadu Buhari has cancelled the federal government delegation for this year’s hajj pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia.
The decision by the President is expected to.....
save the government about $1 million and N30m in local expenses.
Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Malam Garba Shehu revealed this on Monday, August 10.
Shehu stressed that the president’s decision was not targeted at any individual or group, adding that states were free to sponsor their pilgrims, if they so choose.
“The states can deal with that (meaning appointment of own delegations) but this year at the Center, we will not be involved.”
He however added that the federal government will play its traditional roles of providing consular, medical and security services to Nigerian pilgrims.
