Wellington Jighere made Nigeria proud earlier as he became the first African to ever become the World Scrabble Champion.

It will be recalled that about 450 Scrabble players came from around the world to compete in the tournament that saw 36-year-old Nigerian man, Wellington Jighere, emerge the winner in Perth, Australia.
Nigeria also emerged as the best team of the championship as five of its......
six representatives finished in top 50 players of the tournament with Ayorinde Saidu and Emmanuel Umujose placing 16th and 17th, respectively. With this victory Nigeria will gain more slots in terms of representations at subsequent world tournaments. Mr. Wellington also placed 3rd at the World Scrabble Championship in 2007.
