A housewife, Zulaihatu Sule , 23, of the Rigasa area of Kaduna on Tuesday, urged a Kaduna Sharia Court to direct her husband, Muhammad Garba, to divorce her because of his sickness.
She told the court that she
was not aware that her husband had epilepsy before their marriage.
She said that she could not continue to
stay with him because, “it is difficult for me to manage him whenever
he has the attack.”
She further explained that the marriage could not have taken place in the first place if she was aware of her husband's medical history.
She then pray the court to compel the husband to divorce her as he was suffering from the illness before their marriage.
However, the husband Garba, told the court that he
had no epilepsy as alleged by the wife, instead he has a problem associated with brain, which sometimes makes him unconscious
He confirmed that he had the problem before their marriage adding: “I am doing my best to get its remedy.”
In his words, he asked the court to direct his wife to return the dowry paid to her since she had no interest in staying with him.
The Presiding Officer, Usman Ibrahim,
directed the couple to meet with their guardians, who were at the court,
to resolve the problem, and adjourned the case to March 26.
