THESE are trying times for Mr. Uzoma Okoro, a Lagos-based electronics technician. Okoro, 41, is an indigene of Imo State. He has been diagnosed of a kidney disease, which symptoms a Consultant Urologist with the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), Dr. K.H. Tijani, described as
“recurrent left flank pain”
According to a medical report signed by the urologist, “physical and radiological evaluation with a urogram and ultrasound scan revealed a non-excreting kidney with hydronephrosis (probably secondary to) and a stone in the renal area.”

Okoro, whose LUTH Patient Personal Card’s number is M587208, first visited and was attended to at the teaching hospital on August 11, 2009.

According to treatment cost estimate from Medanta – The Medicity, India, dated November 19, 2011 and signed by Neha Mohan of the International Patient Services of the hospital, the Treatment, care and investigations is to cost $14,830; International patient fee, $500; accommodation, $2,500; feeding for two, $2,000; contingency, $4,000; tickets for two,  $3,100, among others expenses.
That adds up to slightly over $26,000, an amount he can’t raise by himself hence his appeal to Nigerians to come to his aid. Other costs to be incurred in the course of the treatment include that of obtaining visa and other miscellaneous for the 30 days he is expected to stay in India.
Cumulatively, about N5 million is needed to save Okoro.
“I appeal to Nigerians to please help me. Don’t let me die. I am not a lazy person and I have always in my life laboured hard to be a good and law-abiding citizen. Please help me'', Okoro cried.

“I also use this medium to appeal to the able Governor of Imo State, my home state, Owelle Rochas Okorocha, to please come to my aid.  I also appeal to Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State to help me…” Okoro pleaded.
