A 36-year-old man a.k.a Mr. Jonathan
Igbinomiahie, who allegedly killed his 75-year-old mother, Mrs. Janet
Igbinomiahie, after accusing her of witchcraft, has died. Jonathan, according to the police, died at
the Central Hospital, Benin, Edo State, on Saturday.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Etim Bassey, who confirmed the death said Jonathan
complained of undisclosed sickness before he was taken to the Central
Hospital, where he later died.
It could be recalled that Jonathan had on May 2 in Obagie in Ehor, Uhunmwonde Local Government Area of the state, allegedly killed his mother whom he accused of being
responsible for his inability to make progress in life. Jonathan accused his mother of
witchcraft and said the mother had been using her power to hinder his
progress.
“On the day of the crime,
Jonathan went to his mother’s apartment and when he discovered that she
was alone in the house, he shot her with a dane gun and later used a
cutlass to cut her repeatedly.
“Some people were later attracted to the scene by the cry of the woman.
“Jonathan also set the house on fire. As
soon as he saw the people that came to rescue the woman, he ran away but
he was later caught by the youth and who took him to Ehor Police
Division, which is the nearest police station to the village.”
