It was a bloody day for the Bauchi State Police Command as gunmen
yesterday killed three of its men on patrol along Bauchi Gombe Road. The
gunmen made away with three police rifles after opening fire on the
policemen on patrol.
Two inspectors and a corporal were sent to their early grave in the
attack.
The Police on Thursday
confirmed the killing of three
persons by gunmen, who attacked Gubio, headquarters of Gubio Local
Government, Borno State.
The state Commissioner of Police, Alhaji Bala Hassan,
told newsmen in Maiduguri on Thursday that the attack took place on
Wednesday.
Hassan said the victims included two policemen and a civilian, adding that the police had begun a manhunt for the attackers.
He told the News Agency of Nigeria “We have
not made any arrest yet but we have spread our dragnet for them. We are
combing the entire area in search of them. We will get them sooner or
later.”
However, residents had earlier told newsmen that a
group of about 10 gunmen had invaded the town located about 85
kilometres from Maiduguri in the evening.
Mr. Modu Ibrahim, a resident, said, “Some gunmen
invaded the town in the evening shortly after Muslims had broken their
fast for the day.
“They went straight to the Gubio Police Station where
they attacked the officers on duty before heading for the Local
Government secretariat.”
