For N6.59m, Femi, 19, will live a normal life again

 Appeal for Femi.....
FOLLOWING an accident at the Alpha Beach in Lagos, in January 2011, Femi Oduntan, 19, has been confined to the  wheelchair after he sustained a spinal cord injury. Ever since, he has been languishing in pain.
Currently, Femi
urinates through a  catheter and is unable to pass faeces. “I insert my hands into his anus to bring out his faeces. He can’t walk and we carry him everywhere, I have been bathing and  feeding him for the one and half years.” said Femi's mother.
A medical report  by Dr G.V Ramdas in India, disclosed that Femi, has a C4 fracture with dislocation and spinal cord injury which seems to be complete below C5.
The diagnosis states that the patient has problems of bedsores and that 10 months have elapsed, with the only option being decompression and stabilization to prevent the on going injury, at the fracture site.
“We may have to do a stem cell transplant which is however not an accepted form of treatment but being tried out with variable results. In any case, that is the only option as surgery at this stage can worsen the patient’s condition. If the patient is willing to accept the risk, if something is compressed and is not working, then it can be improved.”
Pleading for assistance, she said her son requires urgent  financial assistance  to the tune of N6.59 million, equivalent to $39,960,  to enable him  go for  corrective surgery that would enable him to be able to stand on his feet again. His hoping to  go to Fortis Hospital, New Delhi in India, for the operation.
Omowunmi said the amount is for the treatment and the 40 days stay in India. Already, the family has spent over N6.0 million on hospital bills overthe last 18 months since his treatment commenced.

“We have spent all our savings and sold our property to keep him alive. I sold everything in my provision store; his father also sold every property that he has. If not for the help from the family members, who had been helping us out, he would have since died.

A medical report, by Dr Olufemi Bankole, Consultant Neurosurgeon,  observed that due to the gluteal and sacral pressure ulcers that remained unhealed, Femi would remain in the wheelchair, until he regainsuse of his limb. What this means is that he is going to be assisted in his daily activities like a baby.
Ayodele, Femi’s father said the family had raised  N 1million, but was unable to raise more money, since they had expended over N6.0 million on various treatments at the LUTH and other hospitals just to keep him alive.
“We were begging to pay the bills he incurred at the ICU. My business is no longer functioning. I am appealing to corporate organizations, government and well meaning Nigerians, to come and rescue my son.
“He reads and writes well, nothing is wrong with his brain but he can not walk, for him to have survived till today, I know God has a special plan for him. Please Nigerians should help me to rescue my boy.”
