It
is called Multiple Keloidal Lesions and the
victim is Ajayi Babtunde, a 32-year-old man from Ilesha, Osun State. You may not notice his cross immediately. He covers it from the eyes of the public with a piece of cloth.
Can Ajayi be cured? Doctors say ‘yes!’ This has raised his hopes but according to them, N1.8m is required for surgery in India.” Babatunde needs help! He has no money.
From a family of six, Babatunde contacted the infection after a shave in a barbing saloon at Ilesha. He says he lost his father to his ailment, while his mother is a petty trader. He explains:
“I got it through a barbing saloon when I went to shave and I have been spending money since then. It started six years ago at the back of my head as pimples before it got to this level. I did operation to get rid of it but after every three months, it came back. I have also done several operations at different hospitals.”
In 2006, Babatunde had his first operation at Adenle Hospital, Ilesha in Osun State. But the ailment returned after three months. So, he went to Glory Hospital also at Ilesha for another operation. “When there was no improvement, I was advised to come to Lagos State University Hospital (LASUTH) two years ago. At LASUTH, I was placed on antibiotics and drugs. Since then, I have been going there twice a week for medication before I was later told that the ailment is in my blood. And that, it will continue to germinate as long as I live,” he discloses.
Due to the ailment, he was also unable to complete his education. Ajayi had to drop his dream of becoming an International relations expert in Obafemi Awolowo University (O.A.U).
Despite the rejection and humiliation he suffers, Ajayi still manages to work. He works with the Nigerian Port Authority as a license custom agent and he was also a motor dealer.
Yes, the damage is done but N1.8m is enough to fix it. Babatunde is seeking financial help for the surgery.
“I’ am pleading with Nigerians to help me out of this problem because I am going through a lot of pains. I can’t sleep at night because of the pain. My life is gradually going to an end and my hope and future is shaky.
