Kano State Police Commissioner, Alhaji K. Ibrahim Idris, has expressed concern over the growing cases of rape and defilement of minors in the
state, calling on the government, religious and community leaders to rise against the practice.
“In the last one week, we have received eleven cases and the figure has been on the increase in the state”, the commissioner said at a press briefing held in his office, Wednesday.
Alhaji Ibrahim said that although the case of rape is criminal and its increase in the state calls for urgent measures to stem the rising tide. The Ulama, community and religious leaders must rise to the challenge and address the problem, he said.
“All the victims are between the ages of four and 12 and those who violated them are either their neighbours or their relations”, the commissioner said.
The commissioner also disclosed that among the 11 cases recorded, a 55 year old man, Ibrahim Tanko, was arrested for raping his niece of four years at Chediyar Kuda Quarters in Kano metropolis while a similar cases were also reported from various parts of the state.
