When the wind starts, he warned residents, not to stand near electric poles and under trees for their safety, urging parents and guardians to also pay special attention to their wards during the period.
On the flood, which submerged Lokoja and 331 communities in the state, Olusina said that NIMET played its role by issuing a warning alert to the state government and other stakeholders as early as March.
He said that the organisation could only observe and predict weather, but lacked the ability to prevent occurrence of a natural disaster like flood.
The Meteorological Inspector said that the water level in River Niger was still high, and that the areas affected by the flood would will only start enjoying some amount of relief by next month.

He stressed the need for government and stakeholders to be more proactive in future in the handling of flood problem through proper utilisation of information from NIMET.
