Nigeria Police seek assistance from Sweden

The Chairman, Police Service Commission, Mr Mike Okiro, has solicited the assistance of the Swedish Government in the training of the Nigeria Police to enable them.....
combat terrorism and other forms of crimes in the country.
Okiro made the appeal on Friday in Abuja when he led officials of the commission on a visit to the Swedish Ambassador to Nigeria, Svante Kilander.
The chairman specifically wants the Swedish National Police Board  to be of assistance to the police in the areas of crime investigation, intelligence gathering as well as equipment for the force.
According to him, the force will learn a lot from countries like Sweden which had advanced in technology and infrastructure.
“We are here to see how your country can help the police force in the area of manpower development, intelligence gathering, and tactical training on how to fight terrorism.
“We have a lot of Swedish companies doing business in Nigeria. If the environment is not conducive they cannot do business so we are looking at where everybody can benefit,” he said.
According to the chairman, without Intelligence gathering not much can be done. He added that intelligence gathering was more effective than operation confrontation.
“As the chairman of police service commission, I promised Nigerians that by the time I finish my term I will be bequeathing an efficient police force to the country.
Responding, the ambassador requested Okiro to present a detailed document on areas where  his country could be of assistance to the police.
Kilander said both countries should look forward to areas where they could exchange experiences and views.
“Every body knows that Nigeria is dynamic thriving country and many Swedish companies are already here and more are willing to come,” he said.
