The family of the late Consultant
Physician and Endocrinologist, Dr. Ameyo Adadevoh, has finally moved to
honour her after waiting in vain for the Federal Government to do so in
the last few months.
Adadevoh was
credited for halting the spread of the Ebola Virus Disease in Nigeria by
restraining the Liberian-American, Patrick Sawyer, who brought the
deadly disease to the country. She would have been 58 years old on
Monday.
A cousin of the late doctor, Kwami Adadevoh, announced on Monday that the family had concluded plans to immortalise her.
Kwami
stated in a statement posted on Twitter that the family had decided to
keep her memory alive by establishing a health trust in her name.

He
said the initiative, which will be known as ‘Dr. Stella Ameyo Adedevoh
Health Trust,’ would aim at preserving the deceased’s legacy of ensuring
public health safety.
Writing on his
Twitter page, Kwami said, “You (Adadevoh) would have been 58 today. We
could never forget you, even if we tried. Thank you for the privilege of
knowing you. The Health trust has been set up to both immortalise her
name and continue her legacy of enhancing health care delivery.”
Also,
a non-governmental organisation named Nurture My Future, whose
interests are centered on provision of educational opportunities for the
poor, has promised to keep alive the memory of Adadevoh.
The NGO wrote on its Twitter page on Monday that it would honour the “heroine” by instituting a scholarship scheme in her name.
The
scholarship scheme, the NGO added, would be christened ‘Ameyo Adadevoh
Scholarship Fund.’ It said that the objective of the scheme was to allow
her “legacy” to linger in the minds of Nigerians.
The
NGO tweeted, “On the 20th of October 2014, Nigeria was declared Ebola
Free by the World Health Organisation. The country was able to beat this
virus because of the brave spirit of Dr. Ameyo Adadevoh.
“We
honour this heroine as her courageous act prevented Nigeria from a
catastrophe. Dr. Ameyo has left a legacy in our lives that will never be
forgotten. She has taught young men and women everywhere to live by
example.
“As an organisation, we are
launching the Ameyo Adadevoh Scholarship Fund in Honour of Dr. Stella
Ameyo Adadevoh’s Selfless Spirit.
“In
celebration of Dr. Ameyo’s life, this scholarship will be awarded every
year on the 27th of October to children with exceptional intelligence.”
The NGO added on its website, www.nurturemyfuture.com,
that due to the exemplary courage displayed by Dr. Adadevoh, Nigerian
children can stay in school and learn, unlike their counterparts in
Liberia and other affected countries in West Africa.
Dr. Adadevoh would have been 58 today, but selflessness cut her life short.
RIP Dr Adadevoh Our Heroine!
