Love scam: First class graduate of Lead City University defrauds white lady of $12,000

A first-class graduate from Lead City University, Ibadan, Olakunle Akanni, 23, has been sentenced to a twelve month term of imprisonment for defrauding an American woman, Diana Huizenga, 77, of over 12,000 dollars (N1.92 million) through an internet love scam.

Ikeja High Court, falsely presented himself to Huizenga as one  Robert Lewis, a white American living in Nigeria.
He successfully used “love scam” to fleece the woman and even invited her to come to Nigeria with $90,000 before he was apprehended.
The judge, Lateef Lawal-Akapo sentenced 23-year-old Akanni alongside one of his accomplices, Adesina Akinsola, 30 after being found guilty of a two-count charge of conspiracy and obtaining money under false pretences preferred against them.
