Nigeria has been ranked 139 out of the 176 countries surveyed by the Transparency International in its just released Corruption Perception Index 2012.
The
Corruption Perceptions Index ranks countries and territories based on
how corrupt their public sector is perceived to be. A country or
territory’s score indicates the perceived level of public sector
corruption on a scale of 0 - 100, where 0 means that a country is
perceived as highly corrupt and 100 means it is perceived as very clean.
A country's rank indicates its position relative to the other countries
and territories included in the index. This year's index includes 176
countries and territories.
With 27 points out of 100, Nigeria took the position of 37th most corrupt country in a survey where
Denmark, Finland New Zealand are the least corrupt countries with 90 points each.
On
the other hand Somalia, Korea (North), Afghanistan, Sudan and Myanmar
are the most corrupt countries at 174, 174, 174, 173, 172 positions
respectively.
The
highly rated African countries in the survey are Botswana at 30th
