Five-month old Bilkisu Usman lies comatose in her hospital bed at the Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital (ABUTH) where she has long been, awaiting for kind-hearted Nigerians to come to her rescue. All Bilkisu needs is N150,000 for the life-saving surgery which she needs to be performed on her head if she is to live.
Baby Bilkisu Usman’s indigent parents cannot let their daughter die, because they can ill afford the money, but they believe that if kind-hearted Nigerians come to their aid, their daughter’s life will be saved.
A witness of the pathetic situation who spoke to LEADERSHIP FRIDAY said that though she has been seeing to the baby’s every need; she cannot solve the problem alone. She disclosed that she decided to make the baby’s plight public, so that good-spirited Nigerians can come donate humanitarian grounds.
“People should, please, donate whatever amount they willingly want to give towards restoring Bilikisu’s life to her appeal fund.”
Varsity Student Appeals For Help
In life, we do not get any say in the kind of world we are born into – whether it is prepared to welcome one with open arms or ‘treat’ one differently. Zainab Aliyu, certainly must be feeling she did not get a good deal, for, to her, life has been needlessly cruel. Her dream of becoming a diplomat may never come to reality if nothing is done fast to save her life.
With cancer spreading fast through her body and time running out, her thoughts turned to one thing: “the chance to live a normal life again”.
Miss Aliyu’s predicament began when she was just nine years old, when a tiny lump developed on the right side of her neck. Eventually, when she turned 15 in 2007, the lump became larger and painful to the touch.
She was quickly flown to the International Medical Centre, Cairo, Egypt for a thorough medical check, where she was diagnosed to have Hodgkin’s Cancer. The lump was extracted, but within a few months of her return to Nigeria, another lump node appeared. Thanks to the benevolence of a Nigerian, she was flown to Dubai, United Arab Emirates, for treatment.
After 12 circles of chemotherapy, Aliyu suffered a relapse and is currently undergoing treatment for stage IV Hodgkin’s lymphoma. She suffered a stronger relapse which showed total remission, while she was at the same hospital in Cairo, Egypt.
Aliyu is a part-three student at the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, where she is studying International Relations. According to her elder sister, Zainab was doing well in her studies, “until this misfortune befell her”.
Aliyu is now to undergo a bone-marrow transplant at the price of $50,000 after spending about $23,000 for 12 rounds of chemotherapy.
What gives the family hope is her strong conviction that she will bounce back hale and hearty. “This,” according to Ahmed Farouk (Waleed), a family member, “is the reason why we, as a family, are soliciting for assistance from all kind-hearted Nigerians, so that we can give Zainab a chance to live a normal life again,” he pled.
Simbiat Seeks N7m For Kidney Transplant
Meanwhile, a 52-year-old widow, Simbiat Sadiq, is soliciting for N7m, which doctors said she needs to survive her battle with a kidney disease.
Doctors at the Zenith Medical and Kidney Centre (ZMKC), Abuja, where she is currently lying in bed, said she would die if she doesn’t get money for the treatment urgently.
A document sent from ZMKC and signed by its Consultant Physician/Nephrologist, Dr. A. Adejugbe, conveyed the revelation.
“The above-named (Simbiat Sadiq) is a known patient being managed for chronic kidney 2 DM Nephropathy. She is currently on twice weekly maintenance haemodialysis, which cost seventy (70) thousand naira (N70,000) weekly.
“She will benefit from a kidney transplantation, which carries better outcome in terms of survival and good quality of life. The renal replacement is estimated to be about N7m, with medication inclusive.”
According to the doctors, the transplant could be done at the Fortis Hospital, Bangalore, the capital city of Karnataka, in India.
Her doctors appealed to individuals and organisations to render the necessary assistance, by making donations.
Please, help save these threesome.
